Common FAQS - Floating Shelf instructions

Are my shelves varnished, I cant tell?

Yes, unless requested all of our products are twice varnished. We use a very natural varnish to keep the natural look and feel of the timber. This is one of the things that sets aside our shelving from veneer or fake timber shelving.

What adhesive do you recommend?

We prefer to use Sikaflex or liquid nails when we install shelving.

Why do you recommend a larger hole for the rods in the shelf compared to the wall?

We recommend drilling a larger hole in the shelf for the rods compared to the wall to ensure a secure and flexible installation. This larger hole allows for extra space around the rod for adhesive, ensuring a stronger bond. Additionally, it provides a bit of wiggle room in case the holes in your wall are not perfectly aligned, making the installation process more forgiving and easier to adjust.

How much weight will my shelving hold?

When using our rods, they hold 25kg for every rod installed correctly into a wall stud or brick. i.e. if you use 3 wall studs your shelf will hold approx. 75kg

Can you recommend an installer?

We offer install in the Newcastle area. For other cities we recommend finding a handyman or carpenter on HiPages.

Can I install the shelves on plaster alone? For maximum weight capacity and safety, we recommend to install the rods into timber studs or brick. Drywall alone does not provide the necessary support for heavy loads.

Why are there small 2mm pilot holes in the back of my shelving?

These are simply used when varnishing your product to hold the shelf upright. They are not pre drilled holes.
